After retiring, he took up welding to create metal sculpture. He is fascinated with the process of melting metal into one continuous piece, of fusing differences into one unified vision.

Born in 1945, Cliff is a California native whose heritage is from Mexico and Italy. He went to public schools in Los Angeles, graduated from Stanford, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Samoa, and worked for Los Angeles County for 34 years. The last third of his County career was spent with the Los Angeles County Fire Department as its Chief of Financial Management - - a wonderful experience with terrific people doing amazing things.

Now that he is no longer buying Blackhawk helicopters for LA County Fire, he is dealing with the purity of line, the pleasure of texture, the stability of mass, the necessity of void......welded metal sculpture.
